Enjoy Slim and Slender Arms Before Summer
If no amount of diet and exercise has given you the toned, slender arms you desire, cosmetic treatment may be right for you. Body contouring surgery can improve the appearance of different areas of the body, includingthe arms, thighs, and abdomen. For patients interested in addressing upper arm issues, arm lift surgery and liposuction can be combined for a total transformation. To find out which cosmetic treatments for the arms are right for you, schedule a consultation at Dr. Craig Foster's Uptown Manhattan, NY practice.
Arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that can address hanging skin from the upper arms. This loose skin may be caused by weight loss, the aging process, or heredity. Brachioplasty helps eliminate drooping skin from the upper arms by tightening the tissue and underlying structures. Liposuction may be performed in conjunction with brachioplasty to remove stubborn pockets of fat and excess skin. There are different methods for performing arm lift surgery, allowing each surgery to be customized to the patient's needs. These methods include:
- Minimal incision arm lift: Minimal incision arm lifts are best suited to those with mildly drooping skin. Minimal incision arm lifts are performed by creating a small incision in the underarm and slightly into the underside of the arm. Excess tissue is removed from this incision, creating a firm, slender appearance.
- Traditional arm lift: Traditional arm lifts can address moderately sagging upper arm skin and are performed by making an incision from the underarm to as far down as the elbow, depending on the extent of sagging. Excess skin is removed and the remaining tissues are tightened, including the underlying structures, to create toned upper arms.
Liposuction may be performed with or without arm lift surgery, depending on the needs of the patient. Those with good skin elasticity and minimal sagging may find liposuction alone a suitable treatment option, while those with more significant sagging and fatty deposits may achieve the best results with a combination of liposuction and brachioplasty.
Liposuction is performed by making a small incision in the treatment area and inserting a small suction device, called a cannula. Fat cells are then gently removed to create a beautiful, streamlined appearance. When liposuction is performed alone, most patients are recovered enough to return to their normal routine within a few days, although some may require more recovery time, especially if liposuction was performed with brachioplasty.
Those who wish to improve the appearance of their arms without undergoing surgery may benefit from non-surgical treatments. Dr. Foster offers ThermiTight™ to tighten and firm the skin, making it a great option for improving arm tone.
ThermiTight™ is performed using a local anesthetic. A small incision is made in the treatment area and a small probe is inserted to reach deep within the skin. Through this probe, the tissues are heated using gentle radio frequency to stimulate collagen production, improving the skin's texture and appearance.
Recovery after ThermiTight™ treatment is short. Most patients are able to return to work and their normal activities the day after treatment. ThermiTight™ may be combined with other body sculpting treatments, like liposuction, for more transformative results.
